Lord Wellington Loaf was not born into the title. He simply stood very still near a loaf of bread at a garden party until someone, out of politeness, called him “Lord,” and he never corrected them.
Time moves differently for a man of his neck length.
Lord Wellington has never been particularly interested in being impressive. He is interested in making sure everyone is alright. Geese are famously protective of their own, and Wellington takes this responsibility rather seriously. He keeps watch. He remembers who hasn't eaten. He notices when someone is having a difficult day. He will absolutely intervene if necessary.
The loaf is his favourite part of the story. Nobody knows why he had it framed.
Wellington maintains that a good loaf is evidence that things are being handled.
There is something very Wellington about this. Some people say, “I love you.” Some people say, “Are you alright?” Wellington says, “Have you eaten?”
Nobody is entirely sure what happened at that garden party. Lord Wellington has never felt the need to clarify.
Some things are better left to the aristocracy.
Part of Meet the Aristocrats, a collection of small original paintings about creatures with names, peculiar family histories, questionable priorities and far too much dignity.
Buy it for
The person who looks after everyone else. The one who quietly remembers your birthday, defends you when you're not in the room and arrives with food when you've had a terrible day.
The person who is gentle until someone they love is treated badly.
Or simply someone who deserves a small, ridiculous aristocrat of their own.
Give Wellington to someone whose loyalty is one of the things you love most about them.
Place it in
Wellington is small enough to become a discovery. Place him on a bookshelf, study desk, bedside table, hallway, dressing room, reading nook, gallery wall or bach.
Somewhere guests can notice the moustache, discover the framed loaf and eventually realise that this ridiculous goose is actually keeping watch.
