Ed Sheephan does not perform for the court. He performs at it, usually uninvited, usually during dinner.
He commissioned the portrait himself: a study of another sheep’s backside, framed in gold and hung where the afternoon light catches it best. When asked what it means, he says only “context,” and refuses to elaborate further.
He is the only one at court who laughs. The others find this deeply suspicious.
He has no title. He has never wanted one. Watching the Sirs and Lords take themselves seriously is, to Ed, the whole show.
Part of Meet the Aristocrats, a collection of small original paintings about creatures with names, peculiar histories, questionable priorities and far too much dignity.
Buy it for
The person who would absolutely hang a framed sheep's backside in their house and call it art. The one who refuses to take themselves too seriously. The troublemaker, contrarian, comedian or quietly irreverent friend who always sees the joke before everyone else does.
Or someone who simply deserves a painting that says Póg mo thóin with impeccable manners.
Place it in
A home office, bookshelf, dressing room, hallway, powder room, reading nook, bar area, bach or gallery wall. Somewhere guests can discover the tiny gold frame, look closer and realise exactly what Ed has commissioned.
Preferably somewhere the court can see it.
